Billy Goat Hill, San Francisco for kids
The Hill That Used to Be Rocks. The true story of Billy Goat Hill, San Francisco, near San Francisco, CA, told for kids.

Read along
Look up at the hill with the rocky top. Do you think it was always here? Well, people think this hill is what is left of a quarry! A quarry is a big hole where workers dig out rocks.
Long ago, the Gray Brothers mined rock here, clink, clank, bang! After the quarry closed, the hill became a place for the neighbors to play. And here is a secret. A tiny flower called California saxifrage grows here, and it only grows in two other places in all of San Francisco!
That is a very picky flower. It is like a kid who only eats three kinds of pizza. Now, can you spot the two tall, old eucalyptus trees at the top? They stand up there like two giraffes looking at the Bay Bridge.
