Read along

Whoosh! Way down under the street, a train is zooming by right now! This is Glen Park station, and it is one of the deepest stations in the whole BART system. When you ride the escalator down, you can see sixty feet of space.

That is about as tall as three or four giraffes standing on each other's heads! Wobbly giraffes, I know. And look at the very top. There are windows in the roof called skylights, so sunshine pours down into the underground station.

Most subways are dark, so that is a really neat surprise. Can you make a train sound? Let's all go, whooooosh, together!

Quiz the back seat

What lets sunshine into the underground station?

Show the answer

Skylights. Skylights! They are windows in the roof, and the light shines all the way down to the platform.
