The Room That Is a Camera. The true story of Camera Obscura, near San Francisco, CA, told for kids.

Read along
Look at that little building next to the Cliff House. Do you know what is inside? A giant camera! And you walk right into it, like stepping inside a shoebox! It is called a camera obscura. It uses only sunlight.
No batteries, no buttons. Light comes in through a tiny opening, and it paints the whole ocean view on a big white dish inside the dark room. Imagine a TV that runs on sunshine! The waves and the sky show up in there, moving, live, right now. And here is a secret. An older Cliff House had one like it, way up on its fourth floor.
It was lost when that building burned down in 1907. So the people who built this one brought the idea back. Can you find the ocean out your window? Wave at it. Now imagine it shining on a dish in a dark room.
